A KNEADED BREAK

THE REASON....

It has been estimated that 75 - 90 % of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress related problems. Stress is brought about by one’s reaction to many different sources of pressure, both from work and home.

Job Stress is far and away the leading source of stress for adults. However, stress levels have also escalated in children, teenagers, college students and the elderly. The reasons include: increased crime, violence and other threats to personal safety; pernicious peer pressures that lead to substance abuse and other unhealthy life style habits; social isolation and loneliness; the erosion of family ties; and the loss of other strong sources of social support.

We are so conditioned to living in a stress-filled environment that we loose touch with how it feels to be in a normal relaxed state.

Today, many Americans are turning to therapeutic massage for pain relief, rehabilitation, relaxation, or physical and mental rejuvenation.

Massage, one of the oldest forms of healing known to mankind, is now at the forefront of integrative medicine. It is one of the most effective treatments for relieving stress and tension, which causes or contributes to 70-80% of the diseases and ailments that plague our modern society. Studies show that massage enhances immune function and lowers levels of the stress hormones cortisol and nor epinephrine. It also facilitates the release of food absorption hormones like insulin. At Miami’s Touch Research Institute, research has shown that massage has a positive effect on every malady studied thus far, from colic in newborns to asthma, diabetes, and migraines.

THE COMPARISON...

A Kneaded Break Massage Therapy is a private personal spa. Where the focus is on the individual’s needs. Unlike most spas there is no factory like atmosphere of body in body out.

An hour means an hour, not 45 minutes of massage and 15 minutes to dress and undress.

The Clients are booked at least 30 minutes apart which means no waiting when you arrive and no rushing to get to the appointment or pressure to leave when you are finished

There is only one therapist and one client which means 100% attention is on the client not the clock and the next appointment

And then of course there is the fee...

THE EXPERIENCE....

You speed up the path, mentally running down the list of the things you need to do once your appointment is over. You are just about to start the list for tomorrow when you pass under the arbor and enter the garden, and your mind starts to slow down. The litany of things to do fades and your experience begins.

Your pace slows along with your thoughts as you now walk through the garden to the door where Marjorie welcomes you. Inside you can hear the fountain, see the lush green plants and lose yourself in the Chinese wall mural which envelopes the door to the treatment room. The list of things to do no longer matters; time is no longer an issue; all that remains now is the anticipation.

In the soft light of the treatment room music warmly washes over you. The air is scented by candles: you inhale deeply and exhale all your concerns. You remember what it is like to pause and appreciate. The table is inviting you, calls to you to lay aside the anxieties of the day, and to lie down. You close your eyes and exhale more deeply.

Confident hands address your neck and shoulders. You feel the tension and stress start to melt away. Kneading, stretching, arms, legs, now your back. You are floating on a wave release, lost in the rhythm of the music, the next thing you know is that you realize all of your pain is gone.

“We are all done now, take your time; there’s no rush,"

Slowly you come back to yourself. You can’t remember the last time you feel this relaxed and tranquil. Ah, that’s right. It was the last time you were here.

THE CLIENTS...

Debra Aronoff, of Old Bethpage, New York remembers receiving a gift certificate for a massage with Marjorie, four years ago, for her birthday. “I did not know that my life was about to change.” said Debra. She had had vein removal surgery about five years earlier on her right leg. The surgery had left extensive scars. The Recovery process was very slow and over the years Debra remained in pain, especially in the areas of the scars. “I went to a vascular specialist and an acupuncturist, neither could alleviate my pain. Then I met Marjorie."

“Marjorie saw the condition of my leg and explained to me about scar tissue therapy and how it worked. She concentrated on my leg during the first massage and I was amazed at the immediate results. The pain had subsided and it was easier to walk. After a year of coming every other week I am completely pain free. The results of her treatment changed my life.” According to Debra, she continues to come to Marjorie for regular sessions, “not only for my leg but because of the overall stress relieving therapeutic experience. That certificate was the best gift I ever received!"

Royal Martin, a 79 year old resident of Wantagh, New York suffered from arthritis in both shoulders. Doctors gave her shots, told her to do exercises, sent her to an acupuncturist. Nothing worked, until she went to massage therapy at A Kneaded Break. Three times per week, became too, then one. Royal has not suffered arthritic pain in the past 8 months, but does not view the absence of an ailment from depriving herself of massages. “She’s the best massage therapist I’ve ever been to.” says Royal.

Linda Miller of Massapequa, New York swears by Marjorie’s massages and believes they were far more instrumental in relieving pain than was physical therapy. Ms. Miller is out of pain, but is still making the trip to Wantagh once a month for her massage.

James Niceberg of Plainview says he is consistently amazed by Marjorie’s incredible ability to pinpoint and alleviate pain and fatigue. As a martial arts practitioner, he says he has come to depend on regular visits to A Kneaded Break to soothe injuries.

Dell & Harvey Shavelson of Bellmore, New York comments that they have been receiving massage from Marjorie for over five years now. She is like a friend - however, this friend has magical hands and manages to make us feel as if there isn’t a care in the world. This is one feeling that we never want to do without.
